About
Yusuf Brima received his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Makeni in Sierra Leone where he worked on Recommender Systems for job search. In 2018 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship for Low-and-Middle-Income countries for an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Dhaka – Bangladesh. His thesis focused on Deep Learning applied to medical image analysis. At the end of 2020, he got the MasterCard Foundation Fellowship to study an MSc in Mathematical Sciences at the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Rwanda. His end of study easy was a novel COVID-19 detection model from chest X-ray images. Yusuf’s primary interest lies in both foundational and translational research in Computational Intelligence. His current PhD focuses on the use of deep learning to decipher the basis of cognition in nonhuman primates at the University of Osnabrück Computer Vision and Comparative BioCognition groups.
