About the Cognitive Computing Master's Program

Cognitive Computing refers to computational models of cognitive abilities. Through training in this program graduates are enabled to apply their acquired skills for the development of innovative intelligent systems and services.

The program is designed for professionals who study Cognitive Computing in parallel to their job. Besides cutting-edge research in AI and digitalization, students are trained in close connection to real-world applications. Students can earn 50% of the required credits directly in their job. Advanced e-learning tools are used to familiarize students with state-of-the-art technologies. Special compact courses allow students to block a module to a few days. Specific study plans are developed individually for each student.

The Master Program consists of 120 ECTS credits, 30 of which refer to the Master thesis. Students also participate in a study project either at the institute or as part of their job. The Master Program is completed with a Master thesis in the fourth semester and leads to a "Master of Science (M.Sc.)" degree in Cognitive Computing.

Neuroscience

Out of 90 ECTS credits necessary for your Master examination,

16 ECTS credits refer to each of your two areas of focus
12 ECTS credits refer to interdisciplinary courses / Lab rotation
24 ECTS credits from a one-year study project
22 ECTS remaining for the Distinguished Elective Courses module

Continuous examinations in the study project and each of the two areas of focus must be successfully passed before admittance to the final examination.

Tuition Fees

There is a semester fee of 5000€ which is expected to be covered by the employing corporation. This fee allows the University of Osnabrueck to offer the part-time study program and the institute to recruit external lecturers with specific relevance to Cognitive Computing. Students must provide proof of health insurance upon registration.

Study Projects

The study project is designed for and with every Cognitive Computing student individually. There is an offer of interdisciplinary projects available from the institute, where students come together in groups of 5-15 (mixed with the Cognitive Science master) to work on a currently relevant research topic. However, Cognitive Computing students also have the possibility to work on a one-year project inside their corporation, while working closely with institute supervisors, and write a scientific report about their work.

Courses and examinations successfully completed at another university can be accredited on the basis of ECTS.
