Admission Regulations for the International Bachelor Program in Cognitive Science

The following translation is not authoritative, but is included here only to give an overview over the contents for prospective students that are not familiar with juridical German.

§1 Scope

(1) These regulations govern special entry requirements for the international "Cognitive Science" Bachelor course at the University of Osnabrück according to § 18 para. 5 NHG.

(2) The Admission requirements are based on §§2 and 3.

§2 Language Skills

(1) Applicants for the international Bachelor course "Cognitive Science" at the University of Osnabrück must possess proven skills of the English language at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

(2) Unless English is the applicant's mother tongue sufficient English language skills are considered proven through

  • proof of having successfully learned English at school for eight years with the average German grade of the final two years before reaching higher education entrance qualification being 7 Points at A-level major field of study or 9 points at A-level basic field of study.
  • an IELTS test with a score of at least 5.5 points or an equivalent test

(3) Applicants who do not have a German higer education entrance qualification also need to possess sufficient knowledge of the German language.
Unless German is the applicant's mother tongue sufficient German language skills are considered proven through

  • the "Zertifikat für Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (Test-DaF), issued by the Goethe Institute (or equivalent certificates of qualification)
  • Test-DaF (at least 12 points)
  • a comparable qualification (600 hours German including completed basic level)

(4) The "Prüfung zum Nachweis deutscher Sprachkenntnisse", which is prescribed according to §1 paragraph 2 sentence 2 of the Matriculation Regulations of the University of Osnabrück from 15 January 1992, does not have to be taken.

(5) In cases of doubt the final decision whether or not an applicant fulfils the requirements rests with a university staff member who is especially appointed by the study commission in charge.

§3 Additional requirements

(1) The admission for the international "Cognitive Science" Bachelor course at the University of Osnabrück requires approved proficiency in Mathematics.

(2) Proficiency in Mathematics is considered proven

  • if the average grade of the final two years before reaching higher education entrance qualification is 7 Points at A-level major field of study or 9 points at A-level basic field of study.

(3) In cases of doubt the final decision whether or not an applicant fulfils the requirements rests with a university staff member who is especially appointed by the study commission in charge.

§4 Application for enrolement

(1) The closing date for application to the "Cognitive Science" Bachelor course is the 15th July of every year. All necessary documentation must be submitted together with the application. Foreign students with international credentials have to apply by15th June via uni-assist (www.uni-assis.de). Late application does not entitle the applicant to be considered for registration, even if all of the certificates required, according to §2 para. 2 and $3 para. 2, are included.

(2) If all necessary certificates cannot be submitted by the 15th July, an extension may be granted.

§5 Restriction of the application, admission to the third semester

Admission to the third semester can only occur when it can be proved that 44 ECTS credits have been achieved from courses taking place during the first and second semesters.

§6 Coming into effect of these regulations

These regulations come into effect on the day following their publication in the official news bulletin of the University of Osnabrück.
